Traditional Karate Curriculum

iStock_000011248023XSmallThis program teaches the Wado-Ryu curriculum in a large group setting. The essential elements of traditional karate including kihon (“basics”), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring) are covered. Students advance through the colored belt system from white to black. Classes are in full uniform (gi), and are conducted according to classic formal protocols.

These classes are divided based on age and rank. The schedule occasionally changes, but loosely follows the following divisions:

Karate Kid Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced (ages 5-11)

Adult Classes (ages 12 and up)

Black Belt Only Classes

Private, Small-Group, and Tutoring

This approach offers the traditional karate curriculum in a more intimate, focused setting. The program is customized to fit your schedule and needs, and allows you to work with select instructors.

Karate-Athlete/ Competition Program

USANKF-logoThis program is for the karate student wanting an additional challenge. Here, we train athletes specifically for competitive tournament events. This program is very popular and attracts our elite karateka!

We compete on the USA-NKF (National Karate Federation) circuit at both the regional and national level. The NKF is the national governing body of traditional karate in the United States. The competition style is based on the WKF (World Karate Federation) format and is recognized and managed by the United States and International Olympic Committees. These events are directed toward competitive traditional karate. Athletes compete with kata and kumite. This circuit is the most structured and professional available and uses trained, licensed, and certified officials and coaches.

Our Karate-Athlete program has specific classes directed toward competitive karate. We have specially designed drills, a formal conditioning program, and nutritional guidance to enhance the unique athletic skills necessary for success. Our coaches and staff are trained and prepared to meet the needs of athletes at all levels.

Iaido

It is an “exact” art emphasizing very precise, controlled, fluid motion and requires intense mental focus—becoming “meditation in motion.” Originally developed to counter surprise attacks. Practiced largely through kata, with no free-style drills.
